Your Story, Your Place: A Life Writing Weekend

Two afternoons with Dr. Simon A. Thomas

Join Kells-based writer, editor, and translator Dr. Simon A. Thomas for two unhurried afternoons exploring the art of life writing. In a small group, you’ll discover how memory, place, and the everyday details of a life may transform into powerful, lasting prose.

Drawing on his extensive practice as a poet, playwright, and literary scholar, Simon will guide participants in finding their authentic voice on the page – not the polished version they think they should have, but the true one, grounded in their own unique experience. The workshop will fluidly move between memoir and nature writing, using the landscape around Mullagh – its lake, woodlands, and the Golden Mile – as both classroom and inspiration. It’s in the ordinary, after all, where the most compelling stories reside.

No previous writing experience is necessary. Your unique story is enough.

About Simon

Dr. Simon A. Thomas (also known as Síomón Solomon) is a Kells-based writer, editor, and translator. With a doctorate in literature and experience teaching at various academic institutions, his diverse work encompasses poetry, theatre, and literary scholarship. However, Simon’s practice is defined not by his titles, but by his deep attention to language, place, and the nuanced cadence of lived experience.

His plays have been staged internationally. Central to his craft is the conviction that stories deserve careful shaping and that memory, when handled with intention, rises above mere nostalgia to become an intense record, reflection, and inheritance.

This distinct blend of academic insight, creative practice, and an intense respect for personal narrative makes him the ideal guide for a weekend dedicated to finding your voice in this inspiring setting.
